Cultivation advice Sedum Mixed species

  • The seed can be sown directly when the soil has warmed above 10c in spring, but the waste, lost seedlings will be high.
  • Best sown under cover from early spring protected in trays.
  • The seed is tiny ( 15,000 seeds per gram), so always best to mix the seed with fine white dry sand to ensure better spacing when sowing.
  • Surface sow onto moist, well-drained soil-based seed type compost, avoid recycled compost materials and general-purpose compost.
  • Cover seeds with a fine sprinkling of vermiculite.
  • Place in a covered propagator or seal inside a polythene bag to maintain humidity at 18-22 c. Germination averages 2-3 weeks approx.
  • Once germinated uncover and expose to air / ventilation and cooler temps.
  • When large enough to handle transplant the seedlings and grow on until large enough to plant out after all danger of frost has passed.
  • Prefers ordinary soil in full sun and very good drainage, almost drought conditions.  Thrives on neglect.
