Onion ‘Lilia’ is a versatile Italian variety with a striking crimson-purple skin and a peppery flavour. Ideal as a salad onion, it can be harvested young for tender, dark green leaves and a shiny, vibrant red core. When grown to maturity, it produces large, flavorful bulbs ready in around 130 days from germination, with excellent storage potential. This dual-purpose onion combines bold colour, robust flavour, and reliable performance as both a salad onion or when grown to maturity.

Cultivation Advice

Growing Instructions

Sow the seeds on moist soil at a depth of 12-15mm, 8-10 weeks before the last frost.
Start the seeds indoors in trays or directly into the garden once the temperature is above 10c.
Water as necessary and the seeds should germinate between 14-21 days.
Space the plants between 5-10cm apart.
For salad onions, harvest these around 10-12 weeks after sowing or when they reach the desired size.
Alternatively, leave to mature for an all-purpose onion.
