Kale ‘Borecole Scarlet’ is a mid to late season variety that produces an abundant harvest of deeply curled, tender leaves. The foliage turns a striking violet-blue after the first frost, enhancing both flavour and colour. Highly frost-resistant, this variety thrives in a wide range of soils and is perfect for steaming, sautéing, soups, and salads.

Growing Instructions

  1. Directly sow between April-early June.
  2. Sow 10mm deep in rows which are 25cm apart.
  3. Seeds will germinate in 7-14 days, cooler conditions are best for germination.
  4. Enrich the soil with compost or well-rotted manure and apply lime if the soil is acidic.
  5. If sowing indoors, transplant when large enough to handle.
  6. Water as needed once transplanted.
  7. Harvest individual leaves continuously until early April.
  8. Colour and flavour improve after the first frosts.
