‘NuMex Centennial’ has purple flowers and purple foliage. The upright hot fruits, ¾” long by ½” wide,  are purple, then ripen to yellow, orange, and finally red. Very similar in appearance to the Bolivian Rainbow.

Hot Chilli Pepper Numex Centennial

Hot Chilli Pepper Numex Centennial. This was the first truly ornamental variety bred by the New Mexico State University intended for growing in small containers. It was released in 1988 to celebrate their NMSU’s Centennial celebrations.  ‘NuMex Centennial’ has purple flowers and purple foliage. The upright hot fruits, ¾” long by ½” wide,  are purple, then ripen to yellow, orange, and finally red. Very similar in appearance to the Bolivian Rainbow. 95 days.

Spacing, Plant: 18 inches

Light: Greenhouse / Conservatory / Windowsill

  • Sow seeds 1/4″ deep in 3in pots with quality seed compost.
  • Keep moist.
  • Seedlings emerge in 10-21 days at 70degrees F+.
  • Transplant to individual containers when seedlings have at least two pairs of leaves.
  • Keep moist and feed when flowering with tomato type fertiliser.
  • Harvest when fruits have reached full-size and full colour or leave for colourful display.
