Herb Sorrel Lemon. A fast growing and vigorous perennial herb (also known as lemon sorrel) dating back to medieval times, but seen less often now. The leaves are mild-flavored, like spinach but without the astringency that spinach often has. Keep well-trimmed to encourage tender young leaves and remove any flowers as it will readily self-seed.
Cultivation Advice Herb Sorrel Lemon
- Sow seeds March to July, under cover if prior to the last frost.
- Sow seeds thinly, 12mm (½in) deep in drills 30cm (12in) apart.
- Thin seedlings if necessary, when large enough to handle, to 12cm (8in) apart.
- Keep ground weed free and young plants moist.
- Young leaves can be harvested 8 weeks from sowing.
- Harvest regularly from early summer to frosts and keep well trimmed to encourage young tender growth.
